Environmentally Friendly Chemicals for Water Testing

Written by Janice M on . Posted in Water & Environmental

Ongoing development has resulted in constant improvements to trusted Lovibond® chemical reagents for water testing.

5 Environmentally-friendly Improvements made by Lovibond® Tintometer®:

1. Replacement of hazardous substances

Hazardous substances are replaced by harmless and functionally identical substitutes wherever possible.

2. Minimum levels of hazardous substances

Where hazardous substances are absolutely necessary for chemical reactions, the concentration level is lowered to the minimum rate, without compromising the accuracy of the analysis results.

3. Large scale water quality testing

Institutions or companies that do bulk testing of Chlorine levels (using DPD tablets) are able to purchase the Lovibond® PD 250, which greatly reduces the amount of packaging waste

4. Sustainable natural resources

All printed material is printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) paper, which is always manufactured from sustainably managed woods and forests

5. Contribution to water quality

Constant improvements to Lovibond® tests for water analysis make a contribution to the monitoring of water quality all around the world.

Unique Examples of Improved Water Testing Chemical Reagents:

Boric Acid removal

An important modification has been the exclusion of boric acid as an additive to commonly used items, such as DPD 1, 2, 3 and 4, Cyanuric acid and Phenol Red tablets.
(Boric acid is a hazardous chemical that can affect fertility. The European Union classified it as a "Substance of Very High Concern".)

Compliance with the buffering effect required by the standard is also guaranteed.

Lovibond® Arsenic Test Kit (highly sensitive)

The test procedure for determining arsenic levels includes the removal of the interfering sulfide ions. In order to minimise the danger involved with this test method, highly toxic lead acetate has been replaced for the purpose of sulfide removal.

* Specifications and Certificates of Analysis are available for each type of tablet reagent.
